Wilder Grabs First Win

Fultonville, NY - The Glen Ridge Motorsports Park may be the "Birth Place of the Budget Sportsman" but the Budget Sportsman have become the birthplace of the next generation of dirt track stars with many young pilots competing in division, including 14 year old Kory Wilder. Wilder made the move to the Budget Sportsman this season after 7 years in go karts and 3 karting championships.

Jay Lias and John Constantino would lead the field to the start of the Budget feature with Lias jumping out to the early lead. The yellow would fly for an accident in turn 3 involving Don Bellen and Jermiah Munson. Munson would retire from the event with front end damage ending his quest for a fourth victory on the year. On the restart Lias would continue to lead until a bobble in turn 4 would put Lias's mount into the front stretch wall and out of the event. Wilder would make his way towards the front from his 8th place starting spot battling with Constantino and Alex Alberti. Wilder would find his way to the front taking over the lead. The yellow flag would fly for the stopped 5x of Robert Gray. Wilder would hold on to the top spot and go on to claim his first career sportsman victory. Alberti would be second followed by Brian Jones, Angela Hoard, and Don Bellen.

Al McCoy and Jeff Sheely would lead the modified feature to the green flag with McCoy jumping out to the early lead. Jeff Brownell Jr would start in the 6th spot and would quickly make his way to third when Craig Hanson would spin in turn 4 sending the field scattering. Richie Price and Mike Parodi would also be involved but all cars would continue on. On the restart Brownell would quickly apply pressure to McCoy taking over the top spot. McCoy would hold on to second as Brownell stretched out a considerable lead.
John Ramsey, making his first start at the Fultonville oval, was on the moving, piloting his 25R machine to 3rd pressuring McCoy as Brownell encountered heavy traffic. McCoy and Ramsey would close in on the leader but to no avail as Brownell would cruise to his 2nd feature win of the year. Ramsey would use traffic to get by McCoy for the second spot. Craig Hanson would rebound to finish 4th with Floyd Billington rounded out the top 5.

At the drop of the green flag Jason Samrov would take the lead of the Street Stock feature with Shannon McDermott and Randy Cosselman in tow. The yellow flag would fly as McDermott and Brian Cosselman would make contact and spin into the infield off turn 4. Dave Bayes would find his way to the front in his black #3 but behind him the Harry's Auto sponsored cars of Chuck McSpirit and Rob VanAernam were in hot pursuit. McSpirit would use the low line to slip by Bayes for the top spot of turn 2 leaving Bayes to battle with VanAernam. At the line it would be McSpirit taking his second straight victory. VanAernam would be second followed by Bayes, Samrov, and Randy Cosselman.

Jamie Warner would take the early lead in the Cruiser feature with Pat McSpirit in tow. McSpirit would slip by Warner off turn 2 while Chris Andrew would follow him past to shuffle Warner back to third. McSpirit's strong run would end after he had to check up for the lap car of Harold Passino contact between him and Chris Andrew sent him spinning. Andrew would be sent to the rear for the contact handing the lead to Bobby Rhinehardt. Rhinehardt's good run would come to an end as he slowed in the backstretch handing the top spot to Bruce Liddle. Liddles turn at the lead would also come to an end as he came to a stop in turn 4 bringing out the yellow while Warner would go up in smoke ending his run also. Kerry Hollenbeck would take over the lead with Eric Bonney second. Bonney would falter on the restart allow Andrew to slip past for second but Andrew would not be able to catch Hollenbeck as he would claim his 6th win in 7 races. Andrew would be second followed by Bonney, McSpirit, and Heather King.

Jami Russell and Anthony Brennan would lead the CRSA Sprint feature to the green with Russell jumping out to the lead. The yellow would fly for the cars of Billy Jaycox Jr and Chad King in turn 2. Another yellow would quickly fly for the stopped mount of Chuck Alessi. Russell would hold onto the top spot on the restarts and would start to run away. Starting 14th the X car of John Matrafailo was on the move picking his way past Warren Alexson and Danny Ody on lap 5 then passing Jeff VanSteenburg on lap 7. One lap later finding his way past the 12 of Tyler Rice. With the race running green to the finish Matrafailo would run out of time. Russell would take the victory followed by Brennan, Matrafailo, VanSteenburg, and Rice.
